Allene Freedman
Member, Board of Trustees
Allene Freedman’s degree is from the University of Illinois, Hillel Honor Society. Her husband, Myron, is a retired Engineer. Her children include Brenna (CRNA New York Hospital) and David (Senior Architect, A.C. Martin, Los Angeles). She currently volunteers for the ER at Cedars-Sinai Hospital as she has for 25 years, and she is a committee member for the Hollywood Versailles Condominiums. The Freedmans were introduced to the EFGLA when their granddaughter was diagnosed with epilepsy at age16, more than 6 years ago. In 2005, Allene and Myron established the “Freedman Family Fund for Children with Epilepsy” at our Epilepsy Foundation to provide assistance to children of low income families. As a volunteer in the ER, Allene says she will never forget the face of the parent whose child had seizures and could not afford the anti-seizure medicine. That memory and the experience of their granddaughter with seizures drove Allene and her husband to establish the Freedman Family Fund. The funds are used for medical care and referrals, consultations with school advocates, safety equipment including medical I.D. bracelets/necklaces, transportation to local medical appointments, and scholarships so children can attend Epilepsy Camps.
