Christine Bower Baca, MD

Dr. Christine Bower Baca, MD, completed her undergraduate studies at Brown University. She received Magna Cum Laude honors to go along with her bachelor’s degree in Human Biology. Dr. Bower Baca then went on to the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry to obtain her medical degree. She completed her Neurology residency training at UCLA in 2006. She then completed a two-year clinical epilepsy fellowship at UCLA (2006-2008) under the mentorship of Drs. Jerome Engel, Marc Nuwer and John Stern. Since then she has been pursuing research projects and obtaining a Master’s degree in Health Services Research as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. Her research has focused on patients with epilepsy and their potential barriers to coordinated care. She is particularly interested in examining the care of vulnerable groups such as persons with no insurance, racial/ethnic minorities, and persons with disabilities or language barriers. She recently published two articles about gender and racial differences in patient expectations for resective epilepsy surgery. Presently, she is developing a project to evaluate barriers to accessing neurological care in the Los Angeles safety-net system, with a focus on patients with epilepsy. Additionally, Dr. Bower Baca continues to see patients and teach residents and fellows in the UCLA Seizure Disorder Center. Outside of work, Dr. Bower Baca enjoys spending time with her family, including her four month old son, Serapio, and her husband. She also enjoys hiking, running, cooking and watching movies.
