Joseph Abrahams
Member, Board of Trustees
Joseph Abrahams was born and raised in Santa Monica, California, to Jim and Nancy Abrahams. He attended Crossroads School in Santa Monica, and attained a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UC Berkeley in 2006. While at Berkeley Joseph played Division I Men’s Basketball and his first job out of college was at a technology recruiting firm in Los Angeles. Joseph eventually started his own firm called The Calvin Group in 2007, a growing company looking to spread nationally. His connection to epilepsy is through his brother, Charlie, who had his first seizure at 1 year of age. Charlie is now 18 years old and has been seizure free since the age of 8 with the help of the Ketogenic Diet. Charlie’s experience left a profound effect on Joseph as he watched his little brother have up to 100 seizures a day and travel from hospital to hospital for the majority of his childhood. From his perspective, that of a sibling, this was difficult to witness on a number of levels as emotions of anger, jealousy, resentment, guilt and sympathy for Charlie pervaded. Joseph has worked on his relationship with Charlie, loves his brother very much and therefore decided to join the EFGLA Board because he believes his sibling experience could provide a helpful perspective into a community that has been overlooked.
