Elizabeth Aquino

Secretary, Board of Trustees

Elizabeth Aquino is a writer living in Los Angeles with her husband and three children. Her oldest daughter has had epilepsy since the age of three months when she was diagnosed with infantile spasms. Sophie’s seizures are refractory and she has developmental disabilities as a result. She has been the inspiration for much of Elizabeth’s work which includes being a founder and former board member of PACE (People Against Childhood Epilepsy), a non-profit foundation based in New York City that funds medical research and outreach programs for children with epilepsy and their families. She currently serves in an advisory role for PACE. Elizabeth is employed part time by the National Institute for Children’s Healthcare Quality (NICHQ) as the Parent Co-Chair for Project Access, a collaborative that is working to improve the healthcare quality for children with epilepsy. In her “spare time,” Elizabeth tries to write furiously and is working on a memoir about her experiences raising a daughter with a severe disability. She also posts regularly on her blog and her work has been published in several magazines and journals, including the Los Angeles Times, Exceptional Parent, Spirituality and Health, and the Cup of Comfort series. She also volunteers at www.epilepsy.com, working as an editor for the online parent journal. Elizabeth is involved in our EFGLA “Women In Film” project.
