Steven Baum
President, Board of Trustees
Steven Baum currently serves as a Partner and the Chief Operating Officer at Ivory Investment Management, where he is responsible for overseeing the operating, strategic and management activities of the firm. Prior to joining Ivory in 2006, Mr. Baum was a Managing Partner and the Chief Operating Officer at Pierce Street Capital Management, which he also co-founded in 2002. From 1999 to 2001, Mr. Baum was a Principal at Thomas Weisel Partners, where he was involved in developing the firm’s Internet and communications equipment franchises. From 1997 to 1999, Mr. Baum was a Vice President at Montgomery Securities, covering companies in the software, telecommunications services, and broadcasting/entertainment sectors. From 1993 to 1997, Mr. Baum was the Executive Director of Broadband Strategy and Planning at Pacific Telesis Group, where he led partnerships with major telecommunications providers to deliver a nationally-branded package of home entertainment, information and interactive services over broadband networks and wireless systems. From 1991 to 1993, Mr. Baum was the Director of Strategic Planning and Analysis at Sony Pictures Entertainment. In this position, Mr. Baum established new business ventures, structured film-financing transactions, and formulated deal structures for producers, directors, writers and talent. Mr. Baum started his career as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley in 1989, working on M&A transactions in the firm’s media and communications group. Mr. Baum graduated with honors from University of California at Berkeley in 1989 with a BA in Economics.
Mr. Baum lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Carrie, and their two children, Sebastian (5 years) and Alexandra (2 years). Sebastian was diagnosed with epilepsy in November 2007 and has since been under the care and supervision of Dr. Sankar and his pediatric neurology team at UCLA.
